A People's Palace
In Kingston we constantly hear of complaints of a dearth of amusements and even of a suitable place to hold entertainments, Concerts, Conversazione, Flowershows, Dog, Cattle and Poultery shows, Exhibitions of Agricultural Products; gatherings of all kinds, where people meet for amusements or instructions are not oftener held than is now the case because there is no proper place to hold them.
'The vortex of pleasure in Kingston is not of the whirlpool order, indeed it is almost a misnomer for, when a variety entertainment was given at the Conversorium on Monday evening, an entertainment which was described as being "fun at its zenith" with "no end of comicalities," only a comparatively small audience assembled.'

Kingstonians continually complained that there was little to do in their city, but the advertisements in their newspapers seemed to offer a variety of forms of entertainment, and there must have been many other things happening that were not advertised in the press.
I will just start by trying to put one item on each topic page, and then try to do more later.
I have tried to be as factually accurate as possible
on these pages, but there are certainly errors that
need to be corrected. I shall be grateful for any
information on such needed corrections.
My opinions are another matter, but I have tried
to keep them to a minimum any way.
